How Acting President Osinbanjo has Faired so Far

Ever since President Muhammadu Buhari left for London on January 19, 2017 on a 10 day vacation.
Prof. Yemi  Osinbajo has been made acting president Nigerians have been reacting.
The media are spreading rumours that the president is very sick and may not return anytime soon but the Aso Rock media has been quick to quash such rumours insisting that the president is fine.
Acting president Osinbajo has been receiving accolades from Nigerians in the past few weeks.
Below is a list of its recent achievement:


Established A Task Force To Reduce Food Prices
During the federal executive council (FEC) on feb 1, the acting president set up a committee to bring down the prices of food items.
The acting president gave the panel a 7 days ultimatum to report back  to the council on tactics they can use to force down the price of food commodities.
The panel recommend a restriction on importation of finished products that can be produced locally. It also made a suggestion that railway should be used to transport food commodities, while grain reserves should be opened.

Signed Seven Bills Into Law

Professor Osinbajo signed seven bills into law on February 17. The bills were: Oaths (Amendment) Act 2017, Defence Space Administration Act 2017, and others.

Reshuffled Airport Staffs
He visited lagos airport catching the workers unaware, He inspected the facilities and queried some of the officials  as part of the 60-day action plan for business reforms in the country.

Forwarding Onnoghen’s Name To Senate For Confirmation
The acting president, on February 7, sent the name of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, to the Senate for confirmation.
Road contracts
On February 8, he chaired the FEC and gave approval of N21 billion for the construction of the Ilorin-Omu Aran-Kabba Road, Section I.
Also on February 15, he approved the award of N126 billion road projects spread across Kano, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kwara, Gombe, Enugu an Kaduna states.
Visiting the Niger Delta
Between February 10 and 13, Osinbajo visited Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital in continuation of his interactive engagements with oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region.
He then went to Port Harcourt, Rivers state, to meet stakeholders of the oil producing communities. During the meeting, he rolled out the framework for the clean-up exercise of Ogoni land.
CBN and Forex
On February 16, he presided over the first National Economic Council meeting of the year and directed the CBN to review the foreign exchange policy.
The meeting also resolved that fresh $250 million be injected into the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). The CBN subsequently released about $500 million through the interbank market, where the 23 banks bought $371m.

REFUSED TO GIVE ASSENT TO FOUR BILLS

On February 22, Osinbajo sent four letters to the national assembly, explaining why he refused to sign four bills into law.
The bills are: Dangerous Drugs amendment bill 2016, National Lottery amendment bill 2016, Agriculture guarantee scheme fund amendment bill 2016 and currency freezing order amendment bill.
The professor of law backed up his action with some sections in the 1999 constitution.

This happened after he had signed seven bills into law. Osinbajo is the first person in the current administration to have rejected bills.
