DEATH OF RAP CULTURE IN NIGERIA

I have listened to a lot of people talk about the death of hip-hop in Nigeria and how South African artists have taken over hip-hop in Africa. Well sit back and read this little piece.

I will blame the Media, Dj's, Bloggers, OAPs and fans for this. An average DJ will tell you that "if you want me to jam your song on radio and clubs go do dance track", An OAP once told me I need to do a dance track if I wanna blow up in the industry, The bloggers will tell you that if your track no be Afro Beat (Pop) their site won't get traffic that only few people do download hip-hop song and the once that killed it most are the fans. AM SORRY BUT IT'S THE TRUTH. An average fan in Nigeria want a dance track. Gone are those days when you see Nigerians rapping along to rap songs while playing on radio. Also the media (Radio stations) have also help to contribute to the death of hip-hop in Nigeria. An average radio station will play 20 circular song before playing 1/2 Naija hip-hop. Most of them have now abolished their hip-hop shows and replace it with Afro beat show (Rhythm Top 7 at 7 is an example).
The reason why South Africa hip-hop has grown over the years is because the South Africa media appreciate their acts a lot unlike Nigeria media that gives little recognition to real hip-hop head. U can testify to the amount of airplays AKA CASSPER, EMTEE and Co do get on MTV Base, how many times Soundcity, Hip TV dey play Mode9, AQ, Yung 6ix, Terry Da Rapman, Oladips video? I know some of you will say Olamide n Phyno nko. Let's be 100 % realistic, are those guys still doing real hip-hop like the SA acts? Can their song stand toe to toe with AKA n CASSPER song?. Only if the fans, OAPs, Dj's, Bloggers and medias change their mentality, rap in Nigeria will continue to disintegrate.

MOST REALISTIC SOLUTION

Well the best solution to revive hip-hop in Nigeria is to play it more on radio and television, people get familiar with tunes they hear everyday, playing it frequently will make people sing along to rap music again.

Let bloggers write about it, OAP’S should always play like 10 countdown of top rap music in Nigeria.

More attention should be given to rap music talent hunt and the winners should be greatly rewarded.

It is a known fact that that rappers are more talented than circular musicians, fine we can enjoy the groove, the tunes of circular music but still we must invest in talent and not just tunes and freestyle.

This is just an opinion of the writer if you feel otherwise kindly drop your comment.
