Nkire commends Nnamani as APC South East leader

Leader of Abia State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire has congratulated former Senate president, Ken Nnamani on his emergence as leader of the party in the South East.

Chief Nkire said, in a statement, he believes Nnamani is qualified, fit and proper to lead the APC people in the South East, if not Nigeria in general.

He also commended Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for hosting the South East APC caucus meeting. He said without that meeting, “Senator Nnamani’s emergence would not have been possible.”

Chief Nkire also acknowledged that Okorocha has, since the inception of APC, played the role of a father to members of the party in the zone and noted that “his reward will not be in heaven alone.”

He added that with entry of notable people, such as Nnamani, former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Emeka Offor and many others, other political parties in the zone should know that “a great battle lies ahead.”

Chief Nkire further appealed to serving non-APC governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and members of Houses of Assembly to join the ruling party “so as to put the South East zone at the centre where it rightly belongs.

This was even as a chieftain of APC in Abia State, Ebere Uzoukwa said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state should get ready for a shocking electoral revolution that would ultimately end its “inglorious era” in 2019.

Speaking with newsmen after monitoring the ongoing continuous membership registration and revalidation exercise in Obingwa Local Government, Uzoukwa said PDP’s colossal failure in the areas of good governance and infrastructure development has ignited a democratic regrouping of well-meaning Abians that would metamorphose to electoral revolution in the state.

Uzoukwa, a former media aide to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and a member of the seven-man supervisory committee for the exercise in Obingwa said: “We are highly impressed with the massive turnout of the people of Obingwa and Abians in general who are responding to the redemption call which APC presently champions in Abia and South East.

“The foundation for positive change is being progressively laid in Abia with the ongoing membership drive.

“The mistake of 2015 which has negatively affected South East politically is being addressed, with Ndigbo already embracing APC.

“By the grace of God, 2019 will definitely mark a turning point in the political landscape of Abia and the South East,” he said.

Also, national auditor of the APC and governorship aspirant in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, Chief George Moghalu has said the mass movement of Ndigbo into the party was informed by the realisation that the party is the only platform that would guarantee the achievement of their political ambition in Nigeria.

Moghalu, who spoke to newsmen in Awka, during a meeting of APC stakeholders, explained that APC is a national political party that has Igbo interest in its agenda and advised those still having double mind to join the moving train.

“APC is not an Igbo party. It’s a national party that has Igbo interest at heart. That’s why you see great Igbo personalities like my humble self, Dr. Chris Ngige, Ogbennaya Onu and Owelle Rochas Okorocha in the party.

“Those who are coming in now have realised that APC is the only platform the Igbo can realise their political objective in the country.”

The governorship aspirant noted that those who denigrated APC were now coming into the party because of the good work President Muhammadu Buhari was doing.

Speaking on the stakeholders’ meeting, he said it was part of the build-up by the party to take over Anambra State in the forthcoming governorship election.

Meanwhile, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) company, Sam Onyishi, has dumped PDP and joined the APC.

In a remark in Nsukka, Onyishi, shortly after being registered and issued the APC membership card at Ihe Ward in Nsukka Local Governmentb Area, said he did not join APC to contest for election, but to help build the party in Enugu State.

“Nobody forced me to join APC, but I’m entering out of my own will.

“My reason for joining APC is not to contest election, but help build the party in Enugu State.

“I am joining APC today because the spirit of God told me that the party has good plans for the country.

He described President Muhammadu Buhari as honest and patriotic leader who should be given every support to enable him achieve his change mantra for the country.

“Buhari has good plans for this country in spite of the present economic recession.

“The treasury single account of the present administration is the best thing that has ever happened to this county as it has helped to reduce looting of the economy by head of government ministries and agencies,” he said. The former governorship aspirant in 2015 PDP primary, however, said he would oppose any attempt in APC to impose candidates on members.

via party selection of candidates in primary instead of allowing members to elect candidates of their choice.
