Ethnic War: Ile-Ife clash Court orders remand of monarch, pastor, others in prison

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered that suspects arrested in connection with the Ile-Ife clash be remanded in prison pending the commencement of the hearing on June 14.

The trial judge, Justice Kudirat Akano gave the order in her ruling, on Friday.

MANCHESTER -- Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has accused Sergio Aguero of embellishment to get Marouane Fellaini sent off during the Manchester derby stalemate.
Fellaini was dismissed in the 84th minute of the 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium after appearing to head-butt Aguero.
Mourinho said afterwards he had not seen the incident on replay, but the United boss insisted referee Martin Atkinson would not have issued a red card had the Argentinian striker not fallen to the ground holding his face.

Nigeria’s internal secret service, the State Security Service (SSS), is alleged to be involved in a recruitment scandal following the exposure of a shocking lopsidedness in the composition of the new officers recently absorbed into the agency.
The agency commissioned 479 cadet officers after their passing-out parade in Lagos on March 5, at a ceremony attended by the Director-General of the Agency, Lawal Daura, and the Chief of Air Staff, Abubakar Sadique, air marshall.
The parade followed a nine-month training programme under the agency’s Basic Course 29/2016/17, which encompassed academic activities, insurgency/counter insurgency, intelligence operations and gathering, firearms drills and physical training exercises.
But the listing of the newly commissioned cadet officers seen by PREMIUM TIMES reveal wide disparity in the numbers of slots allocated to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, indicating that the federal character principle may have been ignored in the recruitment of the officers.

Former Liverpool chief executive officer Ian Ayre says the club did not complete the signing of Dele Alli as a teenager because they felt he was not worth the fee MK Dons were seeking.
Alli grew up as a Liverpool fan and met with then-manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of a potential transfer.
However, Liverpool and MK Dons could not agree a deal and the 18-year-old eventually completed a £5 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in February 2015.
"There was interest in the player, but where it got to was that the demands at that time were not fitting to what he had achieved at that point," Ayre said at a lecture in Liverpool on Wednesday.
"We didn't feel the player matched that demand. It's easy to sit and say: 'Look what you could have bought,' but how many players could you apply the reverse of that to? That's the truth."

Police: We recovered ‘stolen’ monies from Goje — not budget documents

The Nigeria police say they only recovered suspected stolen monies and some files from the Abuja residence of Danjuma Goje, a senator from Gombe state.

Last Friday, the police raided the house of Goje, carting away some monies and documents.

Goje, who is the chairman of the senate committee on appropriation, had accused the police of taking away the 2017 budget document after the raid.

He said work on the document might now be delayed.

I never said Buhari to work from home henceforth – Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says he “never said that President Muhammadu Buhari is to work from home henceforth.”

In a statement issued, in Abuja, on Wednesday, the minister said the reporting in a section of the media of his post- Federal Executive Council (FEC) briefing that the President is to work from home henceforth is erroneous.

The statement, signed by his Special Adviser, Mr. Segun Adeyemi, the minister said “the President only decided to work from home today, not that he has decided to work from home henceforth”.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai were allegedly worked against the possibility of President Muhammadu Buhari picking former Lagos State Governor and a National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as his running mate in the 2015 presidential election.
Tinubu stated that Saraki, El-Rufai and other stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, who defected to the APC in the build-up to the 2015 elections, instigated Buhari and some APC chieftains not to pick him as the would-be Vice-President.
