Ethnic War: Ile-Ife clash Court orders remand of monarch, pastor, others in prison

By Mike
An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered that suspects arrested in connection with the Ile-Ife clash be remanded in prison pending the commencement of the hearing on June 14.

The trial judge, Justice Kudirat Akano gave the order in her ruling, on Friday.

Earlier, the prosecutor had filed an application for the suspects to be remanded in prison after they pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts of murder, armed robbery, arson and others leveled against them.

However, the defence counsel, Muritala Agboola objected to the application but Justice Akano overruled it.

Recall that the suspects were on April 26 arraigned before the Justice Akano-led court.

The accused were arrested over their alleged involvement in the clash between Hausa/Fulani people and their host community in Ile-Ife which claimed many lives and left many others injured.

Some prominent Yoruba leaders condemned the arrest and parade of only Yoruba indigenes by the police.
