British DJ given one-year jail sentence for playing remix of Muslim call to prayer in nightclub

A British DJ has been given a one-year jail sentence by a Tunisian court after playing a dance remix of the Muslim call to prayer in a nightclub.

London-born Dax J, was charged with public indecency and offending public morality - but fled the country before the court case.

He also issued an apology after footage of the weekend's event sparked outrage when it was shared on social media.

The nightclub in Nabeul in the country's north-east has since been shut down. The London-born DJ was performing at Orbit festival

A court spokesperson told AFP news agency that the court dismissed charges against the nightclub owner and an event organiser.

However prosecutors are understood to have appealed the decision, saying both should have known the content of the performance.
