Protesters occupy Benue House of Assembly over herdsmen attacks
Victims of herdsmen attacks in Benue state have urged the state House of Assembly to pass the open grazing prohibition bill

- The bill was presented 10 months ago but the lawmakers are yet to work on it

The group said the protest is aimed at coercing lawmakers to pass the open grazing prohibition bill that will streamline the activities of herdsmen in the state, Daily Sun reports.

With their mats, cooking pots and other items they gathered, chanting songs and making their demands.

Different communities Benue state have experienced frequent attacks by herdsmen resulting in deaths of hundreds while thousands have been displaced.

The alleged herdsmen were killed by yet to be identified persons, even as the state police command said six persons arrested over the incident were helping in the investigations.

Vanguard reports that the Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Okaula, said yesterday that the command had already deployed a large number of policemen to the area to maintain peace and to prevent reprisal attack.
